Nata dalla ristrutturazione di un convento dei Frati Minimi dell’Ordine di San Francesco da Paola risalente al 1543, Villa Paola conserva ancora oggi, nella leggerezza estetica del suo design e nella tranquillità dei suoi spazi, le suggestioni del suo passato.
La Villa nel suo insieme è costituita da un continuo alternarsi di giardini e terrazze su più livelli, con prati all’inglese, aiuole fiorite e piante straordinarie tra cui spicca un maestoso pino marittimo secolare che domina la terrazza principale a picco sul mare. Sarete avvolti dai profumi e dai colori delle numerose specie mediterranee, che sono le assolute protagoniste di questi giardini lussureggianti. Una seconda terrazza, posta ad un livello inferiore, ospita un’originale piscina a sfioro, che vi farà immergere nella bellezza di un panorama mozzafiato in cui l’azzurro del mare è il protagonista incontrastato. Preziose scalinate in pietra collegano tra loro le terrazze, rendendo lo spazio fluido e dando accesso a scorci unici sulle spiagge di Tropea e Parghelia.
L’attento restauro ha riportato l’edificio allo splendore del periodo dei Marchesi Toraldo di Tropea, ma è riuscito a recuperare anche lo spirito dell’epoca in cui Villa Paola era un convento dedito alla preghiera e alla meditazione, creando un’atmosfera di armonia e lusso discreto, mai ostentato.
